Cholangioscopy with Direct Visualization May Enable Accurate Diagnosis of an Early Stage Cholangiocarcinoma by Dr. Simon Hew, Monash Medical Centre, Victoria, Australia
A 55-year-old male presented with a three week history of upper abdominal pain and jaundice, but no features of cholangitis. After discussion at a multi-disciplinary meeting, the patient proceeded to an exploratory laparotomy, where four subcapsular liver lesions were noted and were biopsied. Given the high clinical suspicion of a malignancy, the biliary stricture was further investigated via single-operator cholangioscopy using the SpyGlass™ DS Direct Visualization System.
